Training

Training is a requirement of the ISPS regulations as well as the individual flag state interpretations in most cases. All Facility and Vessel personnel must be aware of basic security measures, from a standpoint of their personal safety, that of others and the vessel or facility. Abendock’s training is comprehensive, stimulating and presented in easily understood formats and will provide enrollees with confidence in their ability to put what they have learned into practice on a vessel, ship, port or facility. Classes are instructed by security professionals with maritime subject matter expertise. Our courses are specifically prepared for each of the security officer disciplines under Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) or International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.

AbendocK Security Solutions personnel have instructed or facilitated numerous training courses in compliance with MTSA and ISPS. This training can be conducted on the client facility, vessel or at a mutually convenient location. Some of our past students include United States Coast Guard International Port Security Liaison Officers (IPSLO), The Guam Port Authority, company, vessel or ship security officers of major domestic and international shipping company’s and several water front facility security officers. Our maritime based course offering are as follows:

Facility Security Officer Course:
This course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Facility Security Officer (FSO), as defined in Part 105, subpart B, 105.205 of the MTSA, in particular the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a waterfront facility. To include ensuring the development of a Facility Security Assessment and ensuring the development, implementation, maintenance and update of a Facility Security Plan. This course will also discuss the liaison with Vessel/Ship Security Officers (V/SSOs) and Company Security Officers (CSOs).

Vessel Security Officer Course:
This course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and/or hold the responsibilities of a Vessel Security Officer (VSO), as defined in Part 104, subpart B, 104.215 of the MTSA, in particular the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a vessel. To include ensuring the development of a Vessel Security Assessment, and ensuring the development, implementation, maintenance and update of a Vessel Security Plan. This course will also discuss the liaison with Company Security Officer’s (CSO’s) and Port Facility/Facility Security Officer’s (PF/FSO’s)

Company Security Officer Course:
This course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and/or hold the responsibilities of a Company Security Officer (CSO), as defined in section A/11 of the ISPS Code and Part 104, subpart B, 104.210 of MTSA in particular the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a fleet. To include ensuring the development of a Ship Security Assessment, and ensuring the development, implementation, maintenance and update of a Ship Security Plan. This course will also discuss the liaison with Ship/Vessel Security Officer’s (S/VSO’s) and Port Facility/Facility Security Officer’s (PF/FSO’s).

Ship Security Officer Course:
This course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and/or hold the responsibilities of a Ship Security Officer (SSO), as defined in section A/12 and B/13 of the ISPS Code, in particular the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a ship. To include ensuring the development of a Ship Security Assessment, and ensuring the development, implementation, maintenance and update of a Ship Security Plan. This course will also discuss the liaison with Company Security Officer’s (CSO’s) and Port Facility Security Officer’s (PFSO’s).

Port Facility Security Officer:
This course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO), as defined in section A/17 and B/18 of the ISPS Code. In particular, the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a port facility, to include ensuring the development of a Port Facility Security Assessment and ensuring the development, implementation, maintenance and update of a Port Facility Security Plan. This course will also discuss the liaison with Ship Security Officers (SSOs) and Company Security Officers (CSOs).

Port Facility/Facility Personnel with Security Duties:
This course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of Port Facility or Facility Security Personnel as defined in section B/18.2 of the ISPS Code and Part 105, subpart B, 105.210. In particular, the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a facility, to include performance of security duties, situational awareness, documentation and reporting. This course will be taught from the ISPS requirements or by the MTSA requirements depending on the needs of the client.

Ship/Vessel Personnel with Security Duties:
This course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of Ship or Vessel Security Personnel as defined in section B/13.3 of the ISPS Code and Part 104, subpart B, 105.220. In particular, the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a ship or vessel, to include performance of security duties, situational awareness, documentation and reporting. This course will be taught from the ISPS requirements or by the MTSA requirements depending on the needs of the client.

Maritime Security Awareness:
This course aims to provide knowledge to those who are not specifically designated to perform the duties and responsibilities as Ship or Vessel Security Personnel. However, as defined in section B/13.4 and B/18.3 of the ISPS Code, and Part 104, subpart B, 104.225 and 105, subpart B, 105.215 of the MTSA regulations. All personnel aboard a ship/vessel or who work in a port/facility must have basic security knowledge in order to keep their work area or site secure. This course will be taught from the ISPS or MTSA requirements depending on the needs of the client.

Threat Advisory System Response:
This course is designed to allow an organization to decide upon and provide a security architecture describing the appropriate awareness, prevention, preparedness, and response to changing threat conditions. It is structured at a high level, although specific considerations and responses, which are applicable across a broad range of the private sector, are also addressed.

“Say No” to being a victim:
Here the aim is to provide the basic principles and decision making steps to decide if action or non-action should be used. Once the decision is made the course will present various action scenarios and best practices for the person facing the threat.

Preventing Violence in the workplace:
Here our course presents practical definitions of workplace violence and the continuum of acts and behavior, from less severe to more severe, and a classification of workplace violence incidents based on the relationship of perpetrator to victim. It goes through prevention strategies and procedures for detecting, investigating, managing, and following up on threats or violent incidents that occur in a workplace.

Security Awareness Training:
The purpose of this course is to provide a basic understanding of situational awareness and how perpetrators identify and select their targets. We will also discuss how to employ individual protective measures to safeguard yourself and valuables.

Emergency Action Planning (EAP):
This course allows organizations to consider the unique factors to be considered in a disaster. We will discuss the advance preparation, development, coordination and implementation of an EAP, which is the key to a successful disaster response.

Pre-employment Background Screening:
This course presents practical information concerning the value of pre-employment background screening, the importance of the application form, important legal issues and considerations such as the privacy issues, state laws, rules, and regulations, the key elements of pre-employment background screening, the types of information to utilize in verifying the key elements, the use of credit reporting agencies in pre-employment background screening, and a sample pre-employment background screening flow chart.

Information Asset Protection:
Here the course is organized into three primary sections. The first section offers a general framework and some guiding principles for developing an effective Information Assets Protection (IAP) policy within any organization. The second section proposes best practices that may be applied in the implementation of a quality IAP program. The third section consists of consists of a Sample Policy on IAP and a Quick Reference Guide, that can be modified and customized to meet an organization’s needs.

Security, Preparedness and Continuity:
In this course we look at Organizational Resilience: Security Preparedness and Continuity. We provide steps to prevent, prepare for, and respond to a disruptive incident; manage and survive the event; and take actions to ensure the organization’s resilience.
